About
Hello there!
WheelDwell is what Casper Strand named his vanlife endeavours, something he began pursuing in spring 2022 — and after nearly three years of weekends, and the occasional evenings and vacation days spent building, he finally moved into his vanbuild in late spring 2025.
The vanbuild is based on a darkblue L2H2 Fiat Ducato (equivalent to a Dodge Promaster with 136” wheelbase) that features:
- A full kitchen setup: Microwave/forced air oven combo unit, Airfryer, 2 zone stovetop, 90L fridge with freezer
- Bathroom that includes toilet, a small laundry machine and a shower
- Office setup with height adjustable desk and a 34” Ultrawide monitor, which can be enjoyed up close by the desk or from the reversible couch in the cabin.
- A 140cm wide bed that’s going width-wise of the car, which can pushed in to half size by stacking the matrasses –– which then reveals the desk underneath. (Due to this the garage is half as deep as “convential” builds with a fixed bed)
He’s basically tried to maximize the amount of living in the minimum amount of space that was available, and is essentially just missing the dishwasher, but he doesn’t mind (most of the time 😅).
He works as a consultant fullstack developer by trade, primarily in the PIM domain but is overall a generalist who can tackle most things that runs on magic thinking rocks that runs on lightning ^^ Which is also why this blog has a devlog section but he doesn’t mix in any of his professional work there, it’s more so for various hobby projects for fun and help stay sharp at his trade.
He’s also passionate about climate sustainability, reading, movies/tv-shows, some light gaming (when there is time) and more recently aiming to get back into photography and guitar playing. This blog is a sort of free haven where he can simply gush about a new favorite thing or project in an uninterrupted stream of consciousness and in the moment kind of way whenever he feels like –– so take it for what it is 🙈
Why Vanlife?
Initially he wasn’t actually aiming for vanlife, but rather tiny house and building one. But eventually found his way into vanlife as the YouTube algorithm sent him on a side quest and after a couple of months of planning and looking around he went for it!
He saw many many benefits with vanlife, but if he had to make a short list it would include:
- Slow and more sustainable travel, while also bringing the comforts of home with him wherever he goes.
- Freedom of travel but also moving around, he had a habit of moving around once a year for 5+ years prior to vanlife so it felt sort of natural as a way of life.
- Financial headroom, there are some added chores and maintenance costs yes but by remaining stationary most of the year outside of his vacations he is able to save to eventually buy a piece of land somewhere (which would be very easy to move into with a place to live already sorted ^^) with the goals of building some kind of house on it.
Bonus one:
- The community, there are wonderful people from all walks of life living vanlife and even though he is a pretty introverted as a person it’s been an unexpected bonus to get to know more like-minded people ✨
Fun facts about Capper
- He loves to tinker on various projects and enjoys the process and being in the flow, he can be working on anything from a small developer project to tinkering with vanbuilds.
- He’s currently building a climate sustainability app, initially for himself to see the climate impact of living vanlife but eventually others might find this useful too.
- He recently got back into photography and hopes to spend more time on this once the vanbuild is completed and able to travel with it more.

Save some room in your heart for the unimaginable
Which he’s taken to heart (🤭) as a reminder to stay present — but also to stay open: to growth, to unexpected turns, and to letting things evolve when they’re ready to. It’s a way of checking in with himself now and then, and making sure the path still feels right.
